Today was another beautiful, clear, cool sunny day with high’s in the high 60’s.  It was slightly warmer than the previous day.

When I arrived in the area I preached at the previous day around 11:55 AM there were several students from the previous day hanging out in the area who seemed to be waiting for me.

Several of these were the ones who persistently heckled me the previous day and continued to do so today.

The only explanation for this is God is dealing with them and they are under conviction.

As I began preaching I gradually drew a crowd that continued increasing to around 125-150 again.

Today’s crowd was more spread out than yesterday and more rowdy.

I reproved, rebuked and exhorted with all longsuffering and doctrine as I was regularly heckled and interrupted.

In spite of the hecklers many in the crowd listened intently and hung around much of the day.

I really enjoyed preaching on this campus and enjoyed the students although at times I was treated badly by some of them.

I thought a good many of the students here seemed to be more intelligent and civil than many other campuses.

At times when I would preach and answer questions or refute hecklers the crowd would grow silent and listen intently.

I believe I was able to as Charles Finney would say “fasten saving impressions upon the hearts” of many.

After about one hour of preaching a good number in the crowd became upset with me when I pointed out the obvious hypocrisy of a female student who had heckled me most of the previous day and was waiting for me today when I showed up.

I think she was emotionally unstable but she began crying so some began to tell me I needed to leave the campus.

After a few minutes they settled down and I continued preaching and answering questions.  Later in the day this same female student brought me a cup of coffee from the student union.

I told the crowd I guess I could drink it since it wasn’t Starbucks.  They thought I was referring to the cups incident but I explained that was a liberal hoax designed to make Christians sound stupid.

I told them I would not drink Starbucks because they were supporting Planned Parenthood.

It was a nice gesture and she may have been innocent but no way I was going to drink any of that coffee.  She or other students could have spit in it, urinated in it, or even put poison in it.

Another student brought me a brand new bottle of water later in the day.

Around 1:30 PM about 10-15 students and/or professors came out and told the rest of the students not to pay attention to me.  They said I was violating the campus policy with my speech and I needed to leave.

They surrounded me and tried to drown me out.

At this time also two mocking female students with fancy cameras came out and began following me around, heckling, laughing and taking pictures.  I think they worked for the school in some capacity.

For a time it seemed the crowd and other students were intimidated from asking me any questions or interacting with me.  They did not leave the area though but just remained silent.

As I would move away from them they would follow me around and block me not allowing me to speak or interact with the crowd or students.

I pointed out to the crowd and officer this was a violation of my first amendment rights by not allowing me to speak and interact.

I also pointed out they were not allowed to follow me around while I moved away from them.

Soon the police officer on hand made them move away from me and stop following me around.

However when a student would ask me a question and I would begin to answer and interact they would move between me and the student facing the student and blocking me from communicating with the student.

This strategy of theirs though of course predictably failed.  I could tell although some of the students may have agreed with them most of the students did not appreciate or agree with this group although they did not verbalize it at first.

Soon the students ignored the communist group and began to gather around me in a large close circle of around 70-80 and ask questions and interact.

This was a fairly profitable time of interaction as I was able to answer questions and expound the scriptures in many subject areas.

A good number of the students were honest and civil and wanted the dialogue but from time to time several hecklers attempted to sabotage the discussion by interrupting and turning things into a circus.

Whenever some of the students see I am not crazy and able to defend my preaching and arguments intelligently and the students are listening and paying attention they become nervous and try to interrupt and destroy the discussion.

I continued preaching and answering questions until around 3:45 PM.  I learned from the students there would be no school at all next week (Thanksgiving week) and most of the remaining students would be leaving tomorrow (Friday).  Friday is a slower day on this campus anyways.

On both days I was filmed and interviewed by the school news crew.

My wife had very good discussions with students around her all day long and was able to meet several of the campus ministers and Christians on campus who were supportive of our preaching.

The Chi Alpha leader on this campus is a strong moral government believer and loves Mitch Metzger, Jesse Morrell and Winkie Pratney.

Though I did not get to meet with him personally today he did send me a friend request and thanked us for coming.  He said as a result of our preaching their group had several new students show up for their meeting.

Monday February 10, 2014- University of North Florida- Jacksonville, Florida:  Over the years this has been one of the more fruitful campuses for us.  First began preaching here in Fall of 2006 while staying in Savannah, Georgia and making a drive of about 2 and half hours each way for several days.

The Lord rewarded us though as the following semester (Winter 2007) I was preaching all week, the weather was cold, and there were events set up all week in the preaching area that was a great hindrance to the week of preaching.  My crowds that week were probably not more than 25 at the largest.

However the final day as I was leaving the campus a male student approached me and told me he had gotten saved as a result of our preaching.  In later visits on this campus he stood with me as I preached and I allowed him to testify to the crowd.  He was very interested in the open air preaching but later started leaning towards calvinism.

Another student we know of had also been saved around that same period of time and we remained in contact with both of these students for several years and met with them as we made our visits to the campus.

I also remember several visits where we had good sized crowds who listened and asked good questions for hours and through those meetings and discussions afterwards had many students tell me they were now convinced of the commandment and possibility of sin free holy living as a result of salvation.

This campus has been very unpredictable over the years as sometimes within the same week you can gather large, rowdy, mean crowds, and then gather smaller civil crowds with good discussion.  Sometimes you can stir up a hornet’s nest of demonic activity.

This meeting was not the most demonic, but was on the more rowdy, hateful demonized side.  Sister Elizabeth was not doing well physically so she remained in the vehicle and I began preaching at 1:55 PM.  The weather was sunny, clear, and not hot.

I quickly gathered a crowd that grew rapidly into a nice circle all around me of around 75-120.  Early on I met with strong opposition from a profanity using, professing Christian who freely admitted to living in sexual sin who stayed in my face and followed me around trying to intimidate me into preaching about God’s love.  He rebuked me strongly as he accused me of sinning because I was preaching strongly against sin and rebuking it.  He also called me a hypocrite and made it clear judging was a sin.

A black female of the same spirit and foul mouth did the same thing this student did except for following me around.

In spite of the opposition I was able to preach effectively and the crowd grew and remained captivated, convicted and angry.

I had hecklers throughout the entire time of preaching but they did not interfere enough to hinder the preaching from being effective.

Around 3:00 PM I knew things were quickly coming to a head and was about to turn into pandemonium.

A homosexual who seemed to have some type of speech impediment other than the usual, sure sign of demonic activity of having a lisp kept interrupting and reading bible verses of David and Jonathan and how they were supposedly homosexuals.

A large Amazon looking female who claimed to be a Christian attempted to physically attack me for preaching against sin in general and homosexuality in particular and accused me of hateful intolerance.  I rebuked her hypocrisy and told her anyone who defended rather than condemn homosexuality was not any more saved than the devil himself.  The homosexual held her back.

Around this time a student grabbed my hat and attempted to steal it.  I am sure I could have caught him but was afraid to try to run wide open for fear of pulling a hamstring like I did a few years ago at Florida State University.

Thankfully he eventually gave it back as I accused him of being a thief and told him he must leave before the police showed up.

I played it up much bigger than I felt it because I wanted a clear signal to be sent to the crowd such activity was criminal and they could be held responsible and get into big trouble.  If students think they can get away with such in a mob mentality they will continue to do such things.

After I got the hat back another student tried to grab it but did not catch me off guard and did not have the arm power to pull it from me.  He physically threatened me and slapped me weakly on the chest.

Around 3:15 PM I moved into conversation mode to calm the crowd down and deescalate the situation.

I was having some very good discussion on the biblical definition of sin, love, etc.  A tall, feminine looking black male with skinny pants interrupted and accused me of quoting verses out of context.  I asked him where the verses I just quoted where at and what was the context and of course he was clueless.

For the next few minutes he quoted something from the hindu book and tried to argue stupid things with me such as how did I know a circle was round, etc.

I soon rebuked him.  I had told my wife I would return by 4:00 PM and it was nearing that time.  As I was leaving a student from near where I grew up approached me to thank me and encourage me for the message I was preaching.

People try to find all kinds of ways to justify homosexuality.  They are also trying to change the definition of what a homosexual is.

One way homosexual defenders try to excuse it is by asking “What if someone is a homosexual but does not act upon it?”

If they are a homosexual it is because their heart is wicked whether they act on it or not.  All sexual sin as well as all sin is a heart issue.

Mark 7:21-23-For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: all these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

The problem is not physical, genetic, hormonal, or DNA.  It is a heart problem.

Certainly if it is a damnable sin for someone to lust after someone of the opposite sex then of course it is a damnable sin for someone to lust after the same sex.

Matthew 5:27-30-Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: but I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.  And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.  And if thy right hand offend thee cut it off and cast it from thee:  for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Looking upon another with lust in the eyes of God is the same as committing adultery and the Bible is clear that no adulterer will enter into the kingdom of heaven (1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Galatians 5:19-21).

All sex outside of marriage which God ordained to be between one man and one woman (Matthew 19:4-6, Mark 10:6-8) is fornication and fornicators will not inherit the kingdom of heaven (1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Galatians 5:19-21, Ephesians 5:5).

Jesus said your lustful eye and sinning hand will get you cast into hell fire.  One sin caused Adam to be kicked out of the garden.  One sin caused the angels to be kicked out of heaven.  When Jesus Christ was made a sin offering on the cross of Calvary for the sin of the world God the Father turned away from His own Son who had never sinned.

Habakkuk 1:13-Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity.

According to Jesus a lustful eye whether for opposite sex or same sex and a sinning hand will cause someone to be sent to hell.  Jesus is so serious about this He said it is better to pluck out a sinning eye and cut off a sinning hand than to end up in hell.

However according to the scriptures (Matthew 5:27-30, Matthew 15:19-20, Mark 7:21-23) you can pull the eye out, cut the hand off but the real problem is the heart.  It must be changed.

This is what it means to repent and be born again.  To have a change of heart, a change of mind, a change of will, a change of ultimate intention, a change of lifestyle.  Turning to Jesus means turning your back on your sin (Mark 1:15, Acts 20:21, Hebrews 6:1).  You cannot turn to Jesus without turning your back on your sin.

If you are going to be a follower of Jesus Christ you must deny yourself, take up your cross daily and follow Him (Luke 9:23, Matthew 16:24).  You must die to your desires.  The alcoholic must deny himself his lust of alcohol.  The pervert must deny himself his lust of pornography.  The drug addict must deny himself his lust for drugs.  The fornicator must deny himself his lust of fornication.  And yes homosexuals included must deny themselves their lust for the same sex.

God calls homosexuality vile, unnatural, unseemly and reprobate (Romans 1:26-28).

It is not natural, it is vile and it is reprobate.

To become a homosexual one must first resist the truth of God (Romans 1:18), of creation (Romans 1:20), change the image of God (Romans 1:23), be given over to lust (Romans 1:24), and change the truth of God into a lie and worship and serve the creature rather than the creator (Romans 1:25).

While we must always have compassion on anyone in sin we must never be manipulated into allowing them to talk us into somehow excusing them from their perversion when they have committed all of the above to end up where they are now.

Romans 1:26-28-For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.  And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

The heart must be purified and changed.

Faith that saves purifies the heart.

Acts 15:9-And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

A purified heart will result in a purified lifestyle.

2 Corinthians 5:17-Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.

If your heart has been purified you will no longer be lusting after people of the opposite sex or the same sex.  If someone is still lusting after people of the opposite sex or the same sex then they have not repented.  They have not been born again.  They have not been made a new creature.  Their hearts have not been purified by faith.

To be delivered from any sin you must first admit that indeed it is a sin against God.  Believing you are born that way or that you are not responsible for the thoughts of your heart will never cause you to be set free.

Second you must admit you deserve hell for your sin and God is totally just in sending you to hell.

If you do not believe you deserve hell for your sin and God is just for sending you there then you have no fear of God (Matthew 10:28).

Without the fear of God you cannot hate your sin and depart from it (Proverbs 8:13, Proverbs 14:27, Proverbs 16:6, 2 Corinthians 7:1).

Most people claim to hate the sin when they really don’t.  They only hate the consequences of their sin.  That is worldly sorrow that leads to hell and not the godly sorrow that works repentance to salvation (2 Corinthians 7:10).

No salvation without repentance.  No repentance without godly sorrow which involves feeling bad about your sin against God.

Third you must have faith that the Lord Jesus Christ can set you free from the bondage of your sin (John 8:32-36, Romans 6:18, Romans 6:22, Romans 8:2).

You must believe that the Lord Jesus Christ can deliver you from the power of sin as well as forgive you for the penalty of your sin (Matthew 1:21, John 1:29, Acts 3:26, Galatians 1:4, Titus 2:14).

You must believe He can purify your heart and make you a new creature.

You must repent or forsake all your sin (Luke 13:3,5, Acts 2:38, Acts 3:19, Luke 24:47, Mark 1:15).  There is no forgiveness without repentance.  Repentance is not just confessing sin but forsaking sin (Proverbs 28:13).  No mercy from God without forsaking your sin.

Calling on the Lord Jesus Christ to save you from your sin (Romans 10:13).  Forget about silly quick little prayer formulas.  Get on your face and allow the Spirit of God to thoroughly deal with your heart and search you through and through.  Cry out to God from your heart to save you, deliver you, cleanse you, wash you and purify you.  He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him.

Many great memories from this campus.  It was the first campus I attempted to preach at by myself back in September 2006 after I went full time.

While preaching here in January 2007 I met a young man of Egyptian descent who claimed to be a Christian but was admittedly living in sin.  I pressed him with the scriptures and he was delivered from sin, genuinely converted and for several years preached by himself every weekend in the club district locally.  He later attended one of the Southeastern Open Air Preacher’s conferences.

Another young man from another country opposed my preaching for a long time but through follow up correspondence he was eventually converted and became very supportive of the open air ministry.

I remain friends with an atheist who was particularly fond of us and had us over to his house to eat several times.

This campus requires advance permission and since 2008 the police have set up barricades around the preaching spot to protect us from the angry, hateful, intolerant students.

I was recently contacted by a young man named brother Jason who is from the Boca Raton area and has been open air preaching by himself and watching videos.  I invited him to come out.

We arrived at the preaching area around 12:30 PM.  I greeted the young man and we had some discussion.  I then walked over to the three officers present to protect us and greeted them.

I brought a banner today and began to unfurl it.  As I did so a student greeted me and told me he had been listening to me for four years and was graduating and going to medical school.

Brother Jason who came to meet me had also brought a banner.  Since I was in a discussion I told him to go ahead and start preaching.  I investigated him in our discussion and felt good about him preaching.

He preached for some time while I finished my discussion with the self righteous, truth rejecting, living for self medical student.  After that I got into another discussion with a young man who professed to be a believer and was cordial but when I gave him scriptures that contradicted his belief system he began to tell me God was bigger than the Bible.  He did not really want the truth.

Soon brother Jason stopped preaching and entered into a discussion with a few students.  There was no crowd so I decided to begin preaching and perhaps demonstrate some helpful ways to gather a crowd.

Fairly quickly the crowd mushroomed to around 75-80.  One overweight foul mouthed loud woman did not like my intolerance and ordered me to leave the campus, told me it was a good thing I was behind those barricades and stated to the crowd “I HATE THAT MAN!”

The preaching was going great as all the questions and comments were like lobbing an underhanded pitch to a home run hitter.  I easily refuted all of them with scripture and the crowd continued to grow in number and rowdiness.  They were fighting conviction.

A loud mouthed, long haired, dreadlock wearing, pot smoking, black male that I went toe to toe with last year was heckling me some and became so jealous and threatened that he ordered all the crowd to leave and threatened to start a petition to keep me off the campus because of preaching hate.  As he said this profanity rolled out of his mouth like a river.

Like obedient, politically trained robots afraid to disagree with a black person for fear of being labeled racist about 75 percent of the crowd left even though they did not really want to.

I answered questions from the few remaining and then turned the crowd of 25 or so over to the other preacher brother Jason.

A demonized muslim who happened to be a sports fan kept screaming behind me about Jesus and the fig tree.  He would ask all kinds of questions, never be quiet and then accuse me of not being able to answer me.

I rebuked him and his false demonic religion and ignored him.

I had some fruitful discussions on the sideline while brother Jason preached.  Gradually there was probably around 50-60 people surrounding the cage.

Somehow I ended up in front again.  I received some very good questions and to my amazement the students listened and did not interrupt.  I believe I was able to plant some good seeds and make some progress.

The preaching/discussion was going very well.  Soon brother Jason started preaching again so I moved into the background.  He did a very good job.

Generally I like more structure when preaching with other preachers and have one preacher preaching while everyone else stays quiet and watches so as not to distract.  Everything flowed very well today though and it is difficult to be real structured as a normal day because we are all in a small enclosed area and are surrounded by students asking each of us questions.

During this time I happened to have an excellent fruitful discussion with another muslim student standing next to the demonized muslim.  He asked good questions and listened intently to my answers.  I believe I cleared up much of his misunderstanding on several things.  Good seeds were planted.  The demonized muslim stayed quiet during this time.

This campus has a very large Jewish population so it is ironic they are so tolerant of such a anti semitic religion as islam but this must be the case in order to be politically correct.

My wife walked the breezeway away from the free speech spot where they have student groups set up with tables.  The muslim group gave her a copy of the quran.  I have been wanting a copy.

Brother Jason was preaching to a group of around 40 surrounding the barricades as the time reached 4:00 PM.  I asked him if he wanted to go have some fellowship before we made the long trip through traffic back and he said yes.  We had a good discussion after leaving campus.  He is a very sincere, and good hearted young preacher.

Weather today forecast a high of 52 with 13 mph winds.  Due to the weather and the unpredictability of this campus I decided I was not going to work real hard to get a crowd but just start preaching and generating discussion with those sitting around the tables and see how the crowd would build.

I dressed appropriately and began preaching in front of Cooper Hall at 1:30 PM.  I learned from the students that after my visit on Monday fellow campus preacher Gary Birdsong had preached here on Tuesday and Wednesday.

It was quite dead when I began but I slowly began to gather a small group and had some good preaching and discussion.

Many campuses are loaded with professing Christian hypocrites and this campus has some but usually when I am preaching here I am dealing with rank sinners.  This campus is loaded with pot smokers, rock and rollers, homosexuals, atheists, etc. as well as the regular general heathen of fornicators, beer drinkers, cigarette smokers, porno watchers, etc.

There were several muslims as well as those defending islam in the crowd.  One homosexual young man who had heckled me most of the day on Monday and was back today claimed he grew up in a muslim country which I already had suspected.

The subject of islam was dealt with for some time as the crowd continued to grow gradually.  I still had many hecklers throughout the day but none threatened me with violence, or followed me around screaming in my face while attempting to preach, or attempted to drown me out with some kind of noise.  This has often happened on this campus.

Gradually the crowd grew to around 150 as the opposition and hecklers continued to escalate.  This was also before the class break.  I thought the meeting might blow wide open but for some reason it did not.  I did not think the crowd was that size until I looked at the pictures.

Gradually the crowd thinned down to around 30-35.  I continued preaching until around 3:45 PM and began to have discussion with those remaining and answer questions.  We had some very profitable discussion on topics such as “What about those who never have heard of Jesus”, and other religions.

A male student approached my wife and told her he was a former Catholic who is now an atheist.  He confessed to heckling me in the past and wanted to apologize.  She had a very good discussion with him.

We left the campus around 4:45 PM.
