Brother Micah is a holiness campus preacher that travels the United States preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in the open air on university and college campuses. He began open air preaching in 2003 and became a full time open air preacher in 2006.
HOW GOD LED ME INTO THE OPEN AIR MINISTRY
I grew up in Miami, Florida. God began dealing with me after I graduated High School and convicting me of sin. I bought a Bible and began attending church.
My life changed quite a bit but since I had never thoroughly repented and understood the Bible command to holiness and cross bearing, soon I began to become lukewarm (Revelation 3:16).
I had a life changing encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ in 1992. I tasted the goodness of God (Psalm 34:8) and lost my desire for the things of the world such as secular music, movies, pro sports, etc. I had such a desire and hunger for God I began to constantly seek God in prayer and studying the Bible for many hours.
I began to read many verses where God commanded a holy, sin free life that seemed to have contradicted everything I was taught by modern preachers and churches (1 John 3:3-10, 5:18, Matthew 7:21, Hebrews 5:9, Luke 6:46).
I had to humble myself and acknowledge I had never been saved from my sin like the Bible promises (Matthew 1:21, John 1:29, Acts 3:26, Galatians 1:4, Titus 2:14, 1 John 3:5).
God clearly spoke to my heart and made it clear anyone who claims they cannot stop sinning and live sin free the way the Bible promises and commands (John 8:32-36, Romans 6:18, 22, Romans 8:2) is saying one of three things.
1) Your sin is bigger than the work Jesus did on the cross or more powerful than the grace of God. 2) You do not really believe God means what He says when He says “without holiness no man shall see the Lord” which means you are calling God a liar. 3) You sin because you like it and want to.
I had claimed to love the Lord while tolerating sin in my life and He brought to my remembrance “if you love me keep my commandments” (John 14:15) and sin is breaking His commandments (1 John 3:4).
He brought to my remembrance “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil ” (Proverbs 8:13) and if I feared God I would hate sin and wouldn’t keep sinning. He also showed me where the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowing God (Proverbs 1:7) and to depart from evil (Proverbs 16:6) and that fear starts with realizing because of your sin you deserve hell from a holy God (Matthew 10:28).
I humbled myself and God gave me grace to save me from the power and penalty of sin and to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts and to live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world (Titus 2:11-12) and gave me power over sin (Romans 6:14). He also sanctified me and filled me with the Holy Ghost.
I believed, I was called to preach and after some time, I figured out the churches I attended were not interested in the messages I would have to preach. God was also dealing with me and challenging me about preaching on the streets of Miami. He had been dealing with me for many years before about this but I knew I was not ready with sin, compromise, and disobedience in my life.
He kept dealing with my heart about such things as “if you are called to preach what are you waiting for-get out and preach”, “you say you believe the Bible and love God and your neighbor yet people all around you are dying and going to hell. What are you going to do about it?”
I did not know anyone who preached outdoors but knew people did. I began preaching with a friend on the streets of Miami in the summer of 2003. From there God really began to help me to raise up and train laborers to witness and preach.
Soon we had a faithful team who preached each week on the streets, big events and campuses of the Miami area. After a year and half of this I was out praying one morning and God dealt with me about resigning my job, selling my house and going out in faith to preach full time outdoors. This sounded good but I had no intention of doing this anytime soon.
Another year went by and I had been diligently studying and trying to learn all I could about outdoor preaching. I ran across a book by Jed Smock called “Who Will Rise Up”.
He told about his life and ministry to the campus preaching ministry. After I read that book, I dreamed days, weeks and months of preaching on campus. I knew God was calling me to that ministry. Such a fire to preach on campus burned in me.
About a year later, (Summer of 2006) we sold our house and went into full time campus preaching ministry. Since then to my surprise God opened up many doors to preach in churches. I thought when I began preaching on the street I would not ever preach in churches but when you obey God He opens doors. I had before turned down promising opportunities where we attended church but I knew I would have to compromise to stay on that road.
We originally endeavored to work a circuit of campuses in the southeast (Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina), the southeastern coast (Virginia, West Virginia), Maryland, and Ohio.
In more recent years as we received “Macedonian Calls” from other parts of the country we have also preached on campuses and in churches in Oklahoma, Indiana, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
